MOON TRAIL BOOKS
BOOKS YOU WANT TO
SPEND TIME WITH . . .
Moon Trail Books is a publishing firm with a penchant for the interesting, small particular. A niche publisher, in other words.
One of the things that sets it apart from many others is its regard for the book as a work of art. Patricia McAndrew, the firm’s founder and proprietor, issued a kind of aesthetic manifesto with the first Moon Trail book, "ISN'T THIS GLORIOUS!" by Edwin R. Root and Jeffrey D. Stocker. The book, which won the 2006 Bachelder-Coddington Literary Prize for best new work about the Battle of Gettysburg, was already remarkable for the meticulously researched story it told. To that was added the appeal of outstanding design and a sewn binding, the latter a feature not always seen in books these days.
The result? A volume with potential appeal both for Civil War scholars and for bibliophiles.
Moon Trail’s next venture, BETHLEHEM BOY, a collection of letters and diary entries by a Civil War soldier who came from the pacifist Moravian religious tradition of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania’s founders, generated enthusiastic response.
However, “Moon Trail is not interested only in Civil War books,” says publisher McAndrew. As evidence, she cites Joan Campion’s BETHLEHEM, PENNSYLVANIA: A CITY OF MUSIC, a small book planned to help visitors learn about the city’s culture, and the multi-year A.W. Leh Project. The latter resulted in the recently issued A LIVING LEGACY, which documents the work of Lehigh Valley architect Albert W. Leh.
What will interest Moon Trail Books next?
“Try a book about hunting and fishing, and a historical novel," replies the firm’s owner.
